The AEA Story
So, who is AEA?
I’ll tell you.
AEA is comprised of two older semi-retired gentlemen, with two Associates, one a Solicitor and the other, an older Industrial Workplace Psychologist. That’s all … that’s the sum total.
Skill, knowledge and experience.
Why is AEA here?
Back in 2016, many of the Adelaide Suburban Train Drivers requested assistance with the Enterprise Bargaining (EB). The Rail Operations workplace was drastically fractured into factions.
At that time, Gary Collis was frequently heard as a guest on radio, discussing all manner of workplace issues, with callers. He had previously been the SA Employee Ombudsman and certainly knew his way around Enterprise Bargaining.
A handful of the Drivers approached Gary, to see if he could assist with their bargaining process. So, with his colleague, Sam Collins and associate, James Wither, they took up the challenge.
The result was astounding, that this small core of professionals, could amass a following so quickly, to assist these employees, simply by doing what was the right thing.
The Drivers knew when they were onto a good thing and pressured Gary and Sam to form the Australian Employment Alliance.
As word of mouth spread the AEA name and reputation,
AEA was confronted by different opportunities in healthcare, aged care, transport, the Public Service, the Local Government Association, building & construction, waterside and others. Initially, it was for EB negotiations but equally, the individuals’ personal issues were becoming more frequently encountered.
Quite by intent, AEA has never advertised its services. Rather, AEA believes in the organic growth by word of mouth. People join AEA for their own reasons and then, it’s up to AEA to listen, understand and deliver against those expectations.
Employers engage AEA, to impartially assist with industrial relations hurdles.
What of the AEA future?
Nothing lasts forever. Some day, AEA will eventually close its doors. No plans for that just yet.
However, the legacy that AEA will ultimately leave, needs to be heeded by employers, employees and unions, that their workplace environment is so brittle; as brittle as a small group of (older) men can show it up to be, just by doing the right thing. Playing a straight bat, right down the line of the Fair Work Act.
As one of AEA’s clients once put it to me,
“AEA … twice the fight, for half the price”.
